Advantages of Boarding Your Cat At Our Practice
When your cat boards at our practice, we monitor your cat at least twice daily and provide the TLC you would want for him or her. We also provide medical boarding for cats that receive daily medications
During periods of monitoring, a staff member documents food and water intake as well as litter box habits. If any problems are noted at any time, Dr. Norrell will be informed, and she will examine your cat and identify what is needed. We will notify you and make recommendations and follow the plan you choose.
We welcome you to bring your cat’s favorite bedding, small or interactive toys, and their favorite or special diets. If your cat has not visited our practice, prior to boarding, an appointment will be made with the doctor so that she can meet you and your cat to discuss your cat’s needs, normal behaviors and to examine and assess the health of your cat. If requested, we will work to accommodate requests to provide any necessary care (vaccinations, diagnostics etc.) while your cat is boarding.
Our condominiums (cages pictured below) are designed specifically for cats. Hiding places are important for cats as they like to be able to choose whether they want to be hidden or not. This is especially helpful for cats that may be more fearful when they are staying with us. A hiding place is necessary for most cats the first day but is always available throughout their stay. Bringing your cat’s bed will help it feel more comfortable, but we have plenty available. If your cat prefers to stay in its carrier with the door open, that too is an option.
Our boarding area temperature is monitored to ensure optimal comfort for your cat. The boarding area has Feliway calming pheromone diffusers to provide additional comfort and we play quiet, cat friendly music on our Pet Acoustics Blue Tooth Speaker. The Pet Acoustics music is designed within a frequency range proven to reduce stress and calm feline behaviors.
What if you have two or more cats boarding at the same time?
Even cats that love each other want to have a separate place to rest at least some of the time. We will provide the option for them to choose to rest either together or separately and will monitor to see how they do together. Sometimes cats will prefer their own space when away from home and we will provide that if needed. The cats may also be separated for short periods to ensure that each cat is eating. Please let us know if your cats do not like each other at home and we will make sure they have separate suites at all times.
